Note: As I was trying to decide what fly to tie, I decided to do a new one that I had never tied before. I began by looking through some of my many tying books and decided that I liked the flies in the "Spring Creeks" book by Mike Lawson.

I was drawn to his Half Back Emerger, so I looked through the books again, this time at the variations of the Half Back Emerger. I chose the "Half Back Emerger, Blue-Winged Olive" found the "Fly Patterns of the Umpqua Feather Merchants" by Randall Kaufmann. Note that the fly7 found in this book is credited to Mike Lawson.

I felt that since the Blue-Winged Olive was go-to fly on many days in our area, the addition of this emerger would really enhance my fly box. And, of course, tying for the swap provided a few less than perfect flies for my fly box. Now to tie more for myself.
